When the Eon Longevity Tea founder investigated a foraged botanical tea thought to have life extending benefits in an 8-week clinical trial and wanted to bring the tea to market as a consumer product, Helmsman Group conducted product development and commercialization for the innovative tea.
The Challenge
After watching an unbelievable documentary about a forager who purportedly lived to be 128 years old due to daily consumption of his foraged botanical tea, the Founder of Eon Longevity Tea performed research and validated the physiological claims of the tea by performing an 8- week clinical trial with over 60 patients.
The founder came to Helmsman Group with the results of the clinical trial and asked the team to replicate the herbal infusion from the clinical trial and position the product for scale and Direct-To-Consumer distribution. Taking the information from the trial, we worked on product development and commercialization of the tea.
Combining our experience with food science, product development, and commercialization, we were able to fully realize a viable, delicious tea supplement backed by scientific research.
Our Solution
To start developing the foraged tea as a product, we first performed a basic flavor match of the liquid tea, before subsequently working to determine what compounds likely contribute to the efficacy of this supplement system. As a part of this process, we also established minimum thresholds from the ingredients as well as in the extractives. With this development of the taste and supplement system, we worked to develop a product that met the critical cost requirements while being profitable to self-distribute through e-commerce.
Ultimately, to deliver both superior taste and shelf stability of the tea, we produced the tea as a stick pack with a single dosage per day as a ready to mix beverage. To handle production, a complex supply chain was designed to deliver powderized ingredients to be blended at a stick-pack co-packer.
Final Results
The thoroughness of this project with Eon Longevity Tea, combined with significant scientific effort and rigorous regulatory compliance, resulted in this multi-national brand elevating this project from an interesting piece of research to the number one business initiative ahead of all other growth.
